Investment for Youth Fund

Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair     

Standards for Eligibility and Basis for Judging

  1. Applicant must be a member of an FFA, Grange or 4-H in San Diego County within
    the Grossmont Union High School District or Mountain Empire Unified School
    District and must be an exhibitor at the Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair in the
    year of application.

  2.  Candidate may apply for an award in his/her senior year of high school or within one year thereafter.

  3. Awards shall be given annually (funds permitting and applications warranting) to
    FFA, Grange, and 4-H members. application to a four-year school, plan to attend a two-year school, a trade school or show evidence of starting an individually owned business.

  4. The student shall make written application, along with an “official student transcript” to the Investment for Youth Committee of the Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair, PO Box 1202, Lakeside, Ca.  92040.  Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1st. 

  5. The Committee reserves the right to visit the project enterprise of all applicants.  Please provide them with a stamped, addressed envelope.

  7. Selection of recipients shall be based on the following:

       a. Scholastic report

       b. Participation in 4-H/FFA activities

       c. Participation on the ESDCJF Jr Board

       d. Other leadership activities(Church, school, community, family)

       e. Interview

       f. Future agricultural/home economic intent

       g. Agricultural/home economic project enterprise


    8.  The Investment for Youth Committee shall receive written applications from which a selection shall be  made for personal interview.

    9.  The decision of the interview committee shall be considered final.

   10.  The amount to be awarded will be determined by the Investment for Youth Committee based on the  amount on deposit in the Investment for Youth Fund. 

   11.  You will be notified by email, phone, or text as to an interview date and time.
  12.  It is strongly suggested that the appropriate uniform be worn to the interview.
  13.  Recipients and a parent/guardian will be expected to participate in working a
           minimum of 4 hours in the Candy Booth during the fair week.
  14.  Announcement of recipients shall be made by the Investment for Youth Committee at the
           livestock auction on Saturday at 11:45 AM. Recipients are required to be present at the
           auction ring, dressed in their 4-H, Grange, or FFA uniform, on Saturday at 11:45 AM and in
           casual dress at the awards ceremony Saturday at 7:30 PM to receive their award.
