Investment for Youth Fund

Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair     

Standards for Eligibility and Basis for Judging

  1. Applicant must be a member of an FFA or 4-H in San Diego County within the Grossmont Union High School District or Mountain Empire Unified School District and must be an exhibitor at the Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair in the year of application.

  2.  Candidate may apply for an award in his/her senior year of high school or within one year thereafter.

  3. Awards shall be given annually (funds permitting and applications warranting) to FFA and 4-H members.  Applicants to be considered may have made application to a four-year school, plan to attend a two-year school, a trade school or show evidence of starting an individually owned business.

  4. The student shall make written application, along with an “official student transcript” to the Investment for Youth Committee of the Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair, PO Box 1202, Lakeside, Ca.  92040.  Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1st. 

  5. Applications must include a recommendation Report on Applicant from their FFA advisor or 4-H community leader under separate mailing.  Please provide them with a stamped, addressed envelope.

  6. The Committee reserves the right to visit the project enterprise of all applicants.

  7. Selection of recipients shall be based on the following:



  1. Scholastic report                                                                                             15 points

  2. Participation in 4-H/FFA activities                                                                   20 points

  3. Participation on the ESDCJF Jr Board                                                               5 points         

  4. Other leadership activities (Church, school, community, family)                     10 points

  5. Interview                                                                                                         30 points        

  6. Future agricultural/home economic intent                                                        10 points

  7. Agricultural/home economic project enterprise                                                10 points

  8. The Investment for Youth Committee shall receive written applications from which a selection shall be made for personal interview, following which the committee members will name the recipients from FFA and 4-H.

  9. The decision of the interview committee shall be considered final.

  10. The amount to be awarded will be determined by the Investment for Youth Committee based on the amount on deposit in the Investment for Youth Fund.         

  11. You will be notified by email or text as to an interview date and time

  12.  It is strongly suggested that the appropriate uniform be worn to the interview. Bring your FFA/ 4-H record books or photo album of your FFA/4-H years.

  13. Recipients will be expected to participate in working the fair move-in day and the Candy Shack during the fair week.

  14. Announcement of recipients shall be made by the Investment for Youth Committee at the fair livestock auction on Saturday at 11:45 AM. Recipients are required to be present at the auction ring, dressed in their 4-H or FFA uniform, on  Saturday at 11:45 AM and in casual dress at the awards ceremony Saturday at 7:30 PM to receive their award.
